"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 NIV "At first this: God created the Heavens and the Earth-all you see, all you don't see." Genesis 1:1 The Message
"And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:14-18 NIV
Think about that, the vast Universe, created by God in a single spoken sentence. Now think about yourself. Think about how before time began God had you in mind. He numbered your days, the hairs on your head, the height you would grow to, the years that would pass before you married, etc. He had everything laid out before you even had a chance to say anything about it. In fact, He even chose what language you would speak when you did say something about how you wanted your life to run.
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:13-16
Now think about the Universe again. Think about how vast, how wide, how deep, how amazing it is. Look up the Hubble Space Telescope (http://hubblesite.org/); search through the awesome pictures of the many different pictures of nebulae, exotics, stars, galaxies, etc. Let those pictures sink in for a while...
Had a good look? Now that you know how small and insignificant you are compared to the Universe, compared to the vastness of God Himself, who is completely unmeasurable, think about the greatness of His love for you by allowing you the grace, the joy and the gift, oh so wonderful, of becoming His child. Think about how He gave up everything, becoming a mere servant, so that you could become something great.
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:5-10
"But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace trough the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus." Romans 3:21-26
Doesn't that make your life seem so much more like living? Doesn't it make you want to shine God's glory to all who live on earth? As my brother once wrote, "Am I going let a star out shine me?"
Think about your insignificance compared to the Universe, but remember God loves you so much that He chose to make you His child. Remember, you aren't insignificant in God's eyes!
